The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announces that beginning in May 2015 they will be performing a Hazardous Materials Response Action at the King Midas Mill Site (the “Site”) pursuant to its authority under the Comprehensive Environ- mental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (“CERCLA”). The BLM has determined it is necessary to take a CERCLA response action at the Site to abate the threats posed by exposure to lead, mercury, arsenic, and other haz- ardous substances, and the continuing migration from the Site of tailings containing elevated levels of those substances. The BLM plans to hire a contractor to con- solidate and cap mine tailings and a heap leach field present at the Site, a total of approximately 15,000 cubic yards of material. The Site is located one mile west of the town of Cherry Creek, Nevada in Township 24 North, Range 62 East, in the SESE quarter of Section 36. Cherry Creek, with a population of approximately 20 individuals, is located about one mile east of the Site in the east-central part of the Cherry Creek Mining District.
